The territory of Cirò wine
“Cirò is an elegant and Mediterranean wine made of sea, salt and sun. You can find all these ingredients at the firs taste, you recognize them and fix them in your memory. It is precisely this recognizable memory that we look for in our wine.: identity and recognizability.”
Cataldo Calabretta, vice-president Consorzio di Tutela Vini D.O.C. Cirò e Melissa
The vineyards of the Cirò D.O.C. (Controlled Denomination of Origin) are located on the gentle hills between the Ionian Sea and the Sila mountains (Calabria Region). They enjoy a dry climate and they are exposed to the sirocco and north winds. The strong temperature variations between day and night, given by the position between the sea and the mountains, ensures that the grapes ripen slowly, thus reaching the full development of aromas and taste. The sandy and deep soils allow to obtain a wine of great structure and elegance.
The great value given to the cultivation of the grapevine, since the golden age of Magna Graecia (7th century BC), has guaranteed a balanced relationship between man and the natural environment. The agronomic and oenological techniques of our producers have evolved together with our territory, creating a respectful and balanced relationship with such a generous natural environment.
